Qualifications Overview

*  High School Diploma or GED.

Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working on roadway lighting, traffic signals, and underground/overhead projects.

*  Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, skid-steer loaders, digger derricks, and bucket trucks.

*  IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 or Level 2 and IMSA Roadway Lighting Technician Level 1 preferred.

*  Kentucky Electrical License preferred (EE or ME)

*  Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL A preferred)

*  Must be able to travel as needed ( up to 75%)

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

*  Install and maintain traffic signals and roadway lighting systems (conduit, wiring, poles, signal heads, controllers, cabinets, switches, vehicle detectors, overhead lighting/hardware, cabinets, etc.) in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

*  Remove, adjust, repair, or replace traffic signal heads, signal controllers, pedestrian head assemblies, cabinets, and roadway lighting as required.

*  Install, maintain, and repair, vehicle identification and detection systems.

*  Installs and maintains traffic signal loops to include preparing and cutting the road, washing and drying with compressed air, and installing loop wire and sealant.

*  Operate equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, skid-steer loaders, pole trucks, and bucket trucks in a safe and appropriate manner to install and maintain traffic signals and roadway lighting.

*  Operate vehicles and equipment on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of surroundings and work environment.

*  Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.

*  Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary.

*  Loads/unloads materials and tools and keeps site and vehicle storage areas clean and organized.

*  Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to needed areas of the worksite, either by hand or mechanical means.

*  Utilize hand and power tools, including cutting devices, drills, saws, hydraulic, and pneumatic.

*  Perform concrete work as needed, including preparation, shoveling/placing, and finishing.

*  Operate compaction devices such as tampers and rollers.

*  Utilize hand and power tools, including cutting devices, drills, saws, hydraulic and pneumatic and maintain them in good condition.

*  Maintain PPE and safety equipment in good condition.

*  Perform other job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

*  Must be able to get in and out of cabs and beds of equipment/vehicles.

*  Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.

*  Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time.

*  Must be able to lift and move heavy objects (50+ pounds).

*  Must be able to work from all types of ladders, scaffolds, and lifts within the rated weight limits.

*  Must be able to positively identify colors of wire.

*  Must be able to work minimum 8 hr day, 40 hours per week, and overtime, weekend, and night work as required.

*  Must be capable of operating 2-handed tools or equipment.

*  Must be able to withstand repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers and completing overhead work for full day assignments.

*  Must be capable of digging trenches, either by using hand tools or power equipment.

*  Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the jobsite, including use of OSHA approved ladders or stairs.

*  Must be able to travel as needed for work assignments.

*  Must possess good vision (normal or corrected).

*  Must possess good hearing (normal or aided).

WORKING CONDITIONS

*  Position requires working in all elements (heat, cold, rain, snow).

*  Must be able to utilize construction sanitary facilities.

*  Position requires work at various heights (up to 90’) from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and/or cat walks.

*  Position requires work in restricted areas: manholes, crawl spaces,

tunnels, electrical rooms.

*  Position requires work near roadway traffic, moving mechanical parts, vibration, elevated noise levels, and fumes from equipment and vehicles.

*  Position requires work near energized electrical systems.

*  Job requires required PPE (hard hat, eye protection, work-toe boots) to be worn at all times.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

*  Maintain safety awareness at all times on the worksite.

*  Perform all work processes in compliance with federal, state, local, project, and company safety requirements.

*  Job requires mandated PPE (hard hat, eye protection, work-toe boots) to be worn always.

*  Recognize work hazards and hazardous substances/materials and reports

hazards to project supervision.

*  Report all accidents and incidents immediately to project supervision.

*  Use safe tool and equipment practices.

*  Use safe material handling practices

*  Keep work area clean and free of debris.

*  Attend required safety meetings and safety training.
